Saturday, May 15th. 2010 Under 12 Premier League Maree Oranmore 2 Salthill Devon 4 In a long season and this last game in the league, the first half of this game had more twist and turns in it than an episode of Lost. Due to other events happening on the morning of the match, Maree Oranmore found it difficult to get a team out but what a performance this team gave throughout the match. Firstly, we had the fastest goal ( scored in less than 5 seconds ) when Martin Sydorown scored from half way with an excellent shot. This set the tone for the half and from then on it was a roller coaster ride. Salthill Devon is a fine team, who have already won the Connaught cup and leading this year's league, came storming back. They equalized later on but again Maree Oranmore came back with an excellent goal. Great interplay in the box set up a volley for Andrew Connolly to blast the ball to the corner for a 2- 1 lead. At this stage Maree Oranmore were playing well, where the back four of Ciaran Mc, Conor Folan, Luke Howley and Fergal O Dea were rock solid. Three of the backline were new to their positions and were up against a very fast Salthill Devon forward line. Then the most usual incident happen where a speculative shot from Salthill Devon bounced over the bar. However, the referee deemed that the ball bounced into the goal, out through a hole in the net and declared the goal for the seasiders. Despite all protests and not even fully inspecting the net , the referee believe that a hole the size of Ireland's national debt existed and the “mysterious” goal stood. Half time arrived and Maree Oranmore was extremely upset over this event. However, as this group of players has shown time and time again, they focused on the second half and were determined to give their best. Throughout the game, both teams played excellent football and with the aid of the wind, the visitors added a further two goals to finally run out 4-2 winers. Salthill were the deserving winners but from Maree Oranmore's perspective the result was not important. It was the performance and never say die attitude that is very important to any team and this squad of players showed all those qualities again today. Ross Byrnes in goal was of his usual high standards. The two full backs of Ciaran McNamara and Fergal O Dea getting better all the time as the game went on. Conor Folan and Luke Howley were very impressive in the centre with Luke covering back on a number of occasions and Conor getting in numerous tackles. The left and right of midfield of Ronan Tully and Chris O Dowd never stopped running. Kevin Burke and Martin Sydorow (who was man of the match) were very powerful in the middle with their strong running and clearance headers. Up front Ross Doyle and Andrew Connolly had the thankless job of chasing every ball which they did to the very end and had many attempts on goal. Cillian Black and Darragh Manning both came on to play their part in the drama where like the other players, they fought for every ball. As stated, Salthill are an excellent team and all on the field today should feel proud of their efforts. Actually, both teams meet again next week in the cup semi final and lets hope both teams can serve up another feast of football. This has been another good season for this group of players and the managemnet team. This was the proverbial game of two halves, as the Oranmore side found themselves three down at the break, only to produce a stunning second half fight back that had to be seen to be believed. Having conceded the games first goal after only two minutes , when a long throw in caught the Maree/Oranmore defence napping, the home side were left with a mountain to climb when Athenry added a second with only five minutes gone on the clock. In what proved to be one of the few chances Maree/Oranmore created in the first half, Cillian Thompson was unlucky to see his first time strike drift narrowly wide of the Athenry goal. When more indecision in Maree/Oranmores penalty area gifted Athenry their third, it looked curtains for the Oranmore lads. The welcome sound of the referee’s whistle brought an end to their first half misery. Pointing out at the break that Athenry’s three first half goals had come from route one football, the Maree/Oranmore coaches sent their charges out for the second half, with the instructions to get early ball to forwards Tony McHugh and Ultan Hurney. These tactics had an immediate effect, when only four minutes into the second half Liam Molloy released Ultan Hurney, who showed great strength to hold off the Athenry defender to pull one back for the home side. This goal gave the Maree/Oranmore lads great belief and confidence, and with defenders Cian Walsh, Eric Greaney, Jonathan Fearon and Gearoid Hawkins now working as a unit, Athenry were now being denied the time and space afforded them in the first half. Good pressure from the central midfield pairing of Assogba Moise and JamesFlanagan resulted in goal scoring chances being created from a now dominant Maree/Oranmore side, with first Sean Doyle going close and then Ultan Hurney forcing a fine save from the Athenry keeper. The last throw of the dice saw Maree/Oranmore defender Jonathan Fearon pushed into a forward role for the remaining ten minutes or so, and what an inspired change this turned out to be, as he scored Maree/Oranmore’s second with his first attempt at goal. The home support was now more vocal, Athenry were under the cosh and Ultan Hurney duly punished them with a fine equalising goal. Had the Oranmore lads time for a winner against a side now out on their feet? Yes was the answer, and this came when Fearon raced on to Flanagans through ball and dispatched his shot to the back of the net sending the Maree/Oranmore players into wild celebrations. What a game! What a win! What a way to end their season………. Sunday, May 02nd. 2010 Girls Under 12 Premier League Colga 1 - 3 Maree Oranmore In the Premier League encounter Maree Oranmore flew out of the blocks and made an early breakthrough when Katie Smyth prodded home a Rachel Burke shot that had been parried by the home 'keeper in the first five minutes. Rachel and her midfield partner Rachel Hanniffy were completely on top at this stage and created several chances for Katie and the hard working Laoise Walsh. Gradually as the half wore on Colga found their rhythm and their confidence and began to find gaps behind our midfield. Several breakthroughs from the Colga girls found Ciara Fogarty (in goals) being called upon to keep them at bay. As half time approached, Ciara sprang across to parry a goal-bound shot but could do nothing to stop the alert Colga striker flashing home a deserved equaliser. Half time led to a reorganisation to give opportunities to the whole squad and to give a breather to some overworked players . Rachel Hanniffy took over in goals to release Ciara Fogarty for outfield duties. Kristina Dugic had already come in to the fray and she was now joined by Eabha O'Rourke who immediatley made an impact upfront keeping the Colga defenders on their toes. Rachel Burke returned to partner Kristina at the back replacing the ever dependable Laura Shivnan. The half time break allowed the girls to regroup and Alison Blayney and Ciara Geraghty reaserted control between the goal areas. Ciara Geraghty was unlucky not to have a hat trick on the day with a few spectacular long range efforts. On two occasions her shots hit the frame of the goals. More changes ensued with Ailish Carr and Grainne Galvin coming into the defence to good effect. Eabha O'Rourke and Rachel Hanniffy swapped positions for the last quarter and as the momentum swung back towards us, the rampaging runs of Ciara Fogarty and Rachel Hanniffy saw them get behind the last line of defence and snatch the two scores that clinched the win. In a seven-a-side game, the availablility of the full squad was the critical part of this opening game. All of the girls made a huge contribution on the day and all are vital players for the journey just started with this League campaign. Squad: Eabha O'Rourke, Kristina Dugic, Laoise Walsh, Katie Smyth, Ailish Carr, Rachel Hanniffy, Rachel Burke, Alison Blayney, Laura Shivnan, Ciara Geraghty, Grainne Galvin, Ciara Fogarty Girls Under 12 First Division Maree Oranmore 3 - 5 Colga The Maree Oranmore U12 Division 1 team took the field in Colga against a strong local team for their first league game. From the kick off and with the aid of the wind the home team took control and put pressure on our defence led by Chloe Moelee andRachel Connolly. After 4 minutes they got a breakthrough goal, and followed with three more to lead 4-0 before half time. Credit to our girls they stuck at the task and some tireless midfield play from Lisa Blaney and Emer Hannon managed to lift the siege and Kelley Neary put the home defence under pressure and they were forced to concede a penalty which Lisa Blaney despatched with confidence. Once the second half started our girls raised their game and Kelly Neary was rewarded for her excellent play with a goal. Three minutes later Fanni Debreceni scored with a long range effort to bring the game back to 4-3. At this stage the Colga girls were under serious pressure as excellent play from Rachel Burke (Maree) and Laura McNulty kept them pinned back. Unfortunately as we pressed forward looking for a deserved equaliser Colga broke to get a 5th goal. Our girls still kept fighting to the end and were caught out again on the break but this time Lauriane Mercure pulled off a magnificent point blank save to keep us in the game. Despite being camped outside the Colga goals and having some efforts go narrowly wide it was not to be our day and the final whistle blew to leave the final score at 5-3. Overall it was great credit to the girls and their enthusiasm and spirit augurs well for the upcoming games. Squad: Lauriane Mercure, Chloe Moolee, Rachel Burke (Maree), Kelley Neary, Fanni Debreceni, Laura McNulty, Rachel Connolly, Lisa Blayney, Emer Hannon For both games, thanks to Colga for the preparation of the venue and the availability of refreshments. Thanks to our loyal group of followers who always come to support the girls. Wednesday April 28th. 2010 League Division One - Under 14 Salthill Devon 0 Maree/Oranmore 4 Maree Oranmore were taking on this Salthill Devon side for the third time in six weeks, this time in their home facilities in Drom. Maree/Oranmore started well playing with the strong wind but were unable to take advantage with passes and shots all being carried too far with the wind. There were very few goal attempts in this half with the best opportunity coming from David Smyth hitting the post in the latter stages. Declan O Dea replaced David Doyle towards the end of the half but also had difficulty penetrating the Salthill Devon defence. Maybe it was the stern half time talk or the fact that we were now playing against the breeze but the passing noticeably improved after the interval. So much so that it took just three minutes for Barry Smyth to open the scoring with a perfectly timed pass from Declan O Dea. Shane Walsh was on hand five minutes later making it 2-0 from an excellently executed free kick on the edge of the area. Shane made it 3-0 after 20 minutes when a great through ball set him up for his second goal opportunity. The final goal was a cracker when Conor Devlin positioned a perfect pass for Malachy Black to strike home seconds before the final whistle. The coaches were delighted with the second half performance and the three points that keep us well positioned at the top of the table. Under 11 First Division League Final game of a busy season was against title contenders Oughterard. The lads have competed well all season , but this time there were up against quality opposition. Everybody played to the best of their abilities, which is all we can ask for. Full squad: Robbie Commins, Declan Harte, Michael O’Dowd, James Delmaney, Matthew McKiernan, David Price, Matthew Kilgannon, Eamonn Flynn, Cathal Kavanagh, Aaron Connolly, James Delaney, Dominic Curley, Eamon Flynn, Ciaran Blaney, Ewan McDonagh, Scott Mannion, James Reynolds, Jonathan Forde, Bappi , Remon Saturday April 24th. 2010 Under 14 First Division Lakeside Celtic 0 Maree /Oranmore 9 This game had an unusual start in that Lakeside only had seven players so in order to ensure the game went ahead we agreed to loan them four of our lads. The pitch was in poor condition from all the dry weather so it was difficult for our lads to display any of the passing football that we have seen glimpses of in the latter stages of this league campaign. It took just five minutes to breakdown the home defence when Shane Walsh opened the scoring with a fine strike from close range. Alan Burke was on hand three minutes later to make it 2-0. Peter Galowski and Conor Devlin both had a brace before the half finished. The second half saw all the substitutes getting involved in the game and there were further goals from Malachy Black, Declan O Dea and Peter Galowski completing his first hat trick to make it 9-0 at the final whistle. Although this win finally takes us to the top of the table there will much tougher challenges in the final few games of the season. We already beat Ballinakill in the League at home so we wanted to do the double over them. Maree Oranmore started off the brighest. Due to a few players missing we had to play some players in positions that they have not played in before e.g we played B.Walsh up front with B.Tully. This worked well as they were causing Ballinakill's back four problems. Our goal came from M.Quinn. We were defending well through the game. Ballinaill had only one shot on target in the first half and that was well saved by our keeper N.Eames. The only shot they had on target in the second half they scored from. The fault was down to our defenders. They never closed down the Ballinakill player who had the ball and they let him shoot from inside our box. In the final ten minutes we never really left Ballinaill's half but the second goal never came. Our next game is against Kinvara on Monday 26th April. Wednesday April 21st. 2010 Under 11 First Division League Maree/Oranmore 3 Barna 1 In the second last league match of the season Maree/Oranmore again defeated Barna three goals to one at home. Performance was not as good as last week, but was good enough to gain victory. Highlights of the game were fine goals by Bappi and Remon plus another goal from Matthew Kilgannon. Well done to everybody, last match away to Oughterard. Full squad: Robbie Commins, Declan Harte, Michael O’Dowd, James Delmaney, Matthew McKiernan, David Price, Matthew Kilgannon, Eamonn Flynn, Cathal Kavanagh, Aaron Connolly, James Delaney, Dominic Curley, Eamon Flynn, Ciaran Blaney, Ewan McDonagh, Scott Mannion, James Reynolds, Jonathan Forde, Bappi , Remon Tuesday April 20th. 2010 Under 13 First Division Salthill Devon 3 - 2 Maree Oranmore On Tuesday evening last, Maree/Oranmore made the cross city journey to play Salthill Devon in the Drum. In a keenly contested game the Oranmore lads came out the wrong side of a five goal thriller. Maree/Oranmore created the first clear cut opening when Ultan Hurney waltzed his way past a Salthill back four, only to be denied by the home side’s keeper. The Maree/Oranmore side found themselves one down after ten minutes when Salthill Devon capitalized on a sloppy clearance from the Maree/Oranmore defence, to belt home the opening goal from all of twenty five yards, giving goalkeeper Eoin Heery no chance. To their credit Maree/Oranmore picked up their game and created two good goal scoring opportunities, when first Nicholas Sheehan and then Richard Noonan were both denied by some fine goalkeeping when clean through on goal. The Oranmore side were made rue these misses when the home side grabbed a second just before the half time whistle. Having got themselves right back into this game when Nicholas Sheehan fired home ten minutes into the second half, after a nice passing move involving Cillian Hurney and Jonathan Fearon, the Maree/Oranmore lads gifted Salthill Devon their third when failing to clear a free kick from outside the box. This goal seemed to knock the stuffing out of the Oranmore boys, and though Ultan Hurneys goal in the last minute of this game reduced the deficit to one, the Maree/Oranmore management knew their lads had under achieved today. Best for Maree/Oranmore were Cian Walsh and Ultan Hurney. Maree/Oranmore : E Heery, S Doyle, E Greaney, A Moise, G Hawkins, E Fogarty, J Flanagan, N Sheehan, R Noonan, J Fearon & U Hurney. Subs Used : C Thompson, L Molloy, C Walsh & C Hurney Monday 19th April 2010 U14 League Division 1 Maree /Oranmore 3 Colga 3 As the season draws to a close this was always going to be a high stakes encounter with both sides still in with a chance of clinching league honours. Both sides started strong with close making by both sets of players. There were few chances in the early stages and it took Shane Walsh 25 minutes to break down the Colga defence with a great run that ended with a lovely shot to the back of the net. Colga did not waste any time in getting back in the game and it took them just two minutes to equalize when a defensive mix-up let them in. The home side fought hard in the final stages of the half, with the reward coming in added time after David Doyle slotted home a great pass from David Smyth. Colga came out strong in the second half and it took them just five minutes to equalize when the home defence once again had a concentration lapse. The Maree/Oranmore lads took the lead again after fifteen minutes when a penalty incident saw one of the Colga lads sent off. The Colga lads were very determined to take points from the game and this paid off with the equalizer 10 minutes before the end. The draw was probably a fair result in that both sides gave as much as they could. It is hoped the next game is a calmer affair against Lakeside Celtic on Saturday. Full Squad: Cathal Noone, David Smyth, Carl Howley, Neil O Donoghue, Sean Molloy, David Doyle, Luke Whelan, Barry Smyth, Shane Walsh, Alan Burke Declan O Dea Malachy Black Peter Galowski Ronan Fogarty Ronan Cullen, Jack Greally, Eoghan Conneely, Robert O Grady, Colm Doody , Fiachra McHugh, Eanna King, Conor Devlin, Cillian Beirne, Rory McInerney, Enda Tuohy, Eanna O Ceallaigh, Evan Lynsky, Jamie Costello & David Clarke Saturday, April 17th. 2010 Under 11 First Division Maree/Oranmore bounce straight back with fine display. Salthill Devon 1 Maree/Oranmore 1 This Under 11 First Division side continue to make life very interesting at the top of First Division. After a disappointing loss to Cregmore on Wednesday this side bounced straight back with a fine display against potential champions Salthill Devon in Drom. Defence was a bit shaky to start with, but Matthew McKiernan and James Delmeny are improving every game. Up front Bappi is getting to know his job and is a handful for most defences. Mid way through the first half after being under pressure for a long period Bappi led a break away. Ball came back from Salthill Devon defence out to Eamonn Flynn . Eamonn fired low and hard, keeper could not hold it and Matthew Kilgannon reacted brilliantly to pop the goal into the net. One nil to Maree/Oranmore. Home side was discouraged , but came back fighting in second half. At this stage the match turned into a real competitive affair, both sides fully committed. Defence had to be very determined , and James Delmaney came on strong once more to make some fine clearances. In last 10 minutes Salthill Devon scored from a corner, but Maree/Oranmore still came out attacking looking for a winner. Both teams had to settle for a draw. A great performance, real teamwork. Maree/Oranmore may not win this league but they certainly make life very interesting and the top of table. Looks like Salthill Devon will be glad to see the back of us. Next match is versus Barna next Wednesday, last match away to Oughterard. Full squad Robbie Commins, Declan Harte, Michael O’Dowd, James Dalmaney, Matthew McKiernan, David Price, Matthew Kilgannon, Eamonn Flynn, Cathal Kavanagh, Aaron Connolly, James Delany, Dominic Curley, Eamon Flynn, Ciaran Blaney, Ewan McDonagh. Scott Mannion, James Reynolds, Jonathan Forde, Bappi, Remon Under 11 Premier Division Maree Oranmore 3 - 1 Corofin Another home game for Maree Oranmore, this time against Corofin. Under 15 First Division Maree Oranmore 1 - 1 Lakeside Celtic Maree Oranmore started off the brightest and within fifteen minutes Maree Oranmore were one nil up. The goal was scored by Shane O'Toole. Maree Oranmore created a couple of more chances in the first half but the score stayed one nil at half time. In the second half Lakeside Celtic played the long ball game as they had two very tall players. This put us under an awful lot of pressure. Maree Oranmore created very little in the second half. For the last ten minutes Lakeside had about ten corners and we defended these corners well. With eighty minutes played we asked the referee what was left and he said "two minutes". In the THIRD minute of injury time Lakeside had a corner. The ball was crossed in but was not cleared. The ball bounced around in the box and then the referee blew for a penalty, he claimed one of our players fouled a Lakeside Celtlc player. From this penalty they scored and the referee then blew for full time. One all. Under 10 Challenges v Craughwell Maree Oranmore 'A' 3 - 1 Craughwell United 'A' Goalscorers: Joshua Keane, Declan Gill, Luke Smyth Maree Oranmore 'B' 1 - 1 Craughwell United 'B' Goalscorer: Ross O'Sullivan Thursday April 15th. 2010 Under 14 First Division Maree Oranmore 4 - 1 Salthill Devon Maree Oranmore looked nervous in the first half of this game against a Salthill Devon side looking for revenge following their recent Cup final defeat in Terryland Park. The Salthill lads kept our lads under pressure in the early encounters and it took the homeside 22 minutes to break the Devon defence with a great strike from Declan O Dea. Five minutes later Alan Burke made it 2-0 when a handball incident gave us a penalty that was hammered home by Burke. There was much better passing of the ball by the home side in the second half and Declan O Dea made it 3-0 after just five minutes. Alan Burke was on hand again after 10 minutes to put the tie out of Salthill Devons reach. Salthill Devon were awarded a goal by the referee after 22 minutes when Cathal Noone was seen to take the ball across the line after a well taken corner by Salthill Devon. The coaches were happy to have these points in the bag before next weeks difficult home encounter against Colga on Monday evening at 7pm Full Squad: Cathal Noone, David Smyth, Barry Smyth, Ronan Cullen, Peter Galowski, Carl Howley, Bryan Hannify, Neil O Donoghue, Malachy Black, Jack Greally, Eoghan Conneely, , Ronan Fogarty, Declan O Dea, Robert O Grady, Colm Doody , Fiachra McHugh, Shane Walsh, Eanna King, Conor Devlin, Cillian Beirne, Alan Burke & Rory McInerney Wednesday, April 14th. 2010 Under 11 First Division Cregmore Claregalway 2 - 0 Maree Oranmore On Wednesday 14th the Under 11 first Division side travelled to Cregmore on a fine evening for a top of the table clash. Maree Oranmore played “uphill “ in first half with a five man defence with Matthew McKiernan acting as sweeper behind James Dalmeny and Michael O’Dowd. First half went more or less to plan with Maree/Oranmore conceding just one goal in face of strong pressure from home side. Strong debuts from both Bappi and Remon added considerably to the strength of the squad. Second half was a different story. Aaron Connolly and David Price had several good chances. The home side was under strong pressure for long periods. However in final five minutes Cregmore scored a second goal to make it two goals to nil at the final whistle. A fine battling performance from Maree/Oranmore against the probable champions. Very much improved display from when the two sides met early in the season. Three games left, next match this Saturday versus Salthill Devon. Full squad Robbie Commins, Declan Harte, Michael O’Dowd, James Dalmaney, Matthew McKiernan, David Price, Matthew Kilgannon, Eamonn Flynn, Cathal Kavanagh, Aaron Connolly, James Delany, Dominic Curley, Eamon Flynn, Ciaran Blaney, Ewan McDonagh. U-12 Premier Cup Maree Oranmore 2 Colga 0 In a very tight game Maree Oranmore had a 2-0 victory over a very unlucky Colga in Oranmore . On a beautiful day ,with a big crowd watching, these two neighbouring teams played out a wonderfully entertaining game with loads of chances on both sides. In the early stages, Colga had a number of chances, but a well organized defence limited their attempts on goal. On a number of occasions, Conor Folan made a number of decisive interceptions with excellent covering from Chris O Dowd. On each side of the central defenders, Conor Redington and Fergal O Dea were having a busy time but were coping very well with any attacks coming down the channels. This was perhaps the best footballing performance from this team in a long time and this was due mainly to the hard working midfield who continuously hassled for each ball and put together a number of passing movements. Tim Carroll and Martin Sydorow were playing great probing passes to the front two of Ross Doyle and Andrew Connolly who never stopped working throughout the game. On the wings Ronan Tully and Luke Howley never stopped running and always tried to get down the channels to get in crosses. However both teams did have their chances and it was surprising that it was still 0-0 at half time. Despite the heat and the expected slowdown of pace in the second half, both teams in fact upped the tempo of the game. This resulted in Maree Oranmore taking a lead when a through ball from Martin Sydorow found Andrew Connolly in space. Andrew ran in on goal and slotted the ball into the net to the relief of the team and management. Colga came storming back and for the next ten minutes had a number of chances. In fact, it was at this stage that Ross Byrnes in goal made perhaps the save of the season, when unsighted and at full stretch , he had to palm away a great shot that looked destined for goal. From the resulting corner, he made another point blank save to keep the home team in the lead. Later on in the half, Maree Oranmore got their second goal where an interchange of passes in the Colga box, resulted in an intelligent pass from Ross Doyle allowed Andrew Connolly to slot home his second of the game. To the end of the game, Colga pushed on and Maree Oranmore had to work hard to the final whistle. Cillian Black and Kevin Burke were introduced and helped to add fresh legs to the team and contribute to team effort. Time ran out before we could introduce Dara Hannify and Darragh Manning but there will be another game for them soon. As stated before, this was perhaps this team best performance in a while with regards to football, hard work and discipline. Lots of players played to their highest level. This squad is full of fine players who ,when they are on form, are a match for any team in this competition and league. However, a man of the match performance fromm Fergal O Dea was fully deserved as he was outstanding throughout in the left back position. So on to the next round and hopefully we can give the same performance and effort in the next match. Also , well done to the referee for allowing the game to flow and to the usual core of supporters who come to all these matches. I know the players, management and club appreciate the efforts made by everyone. Panel: Ross Byrnes, Conor Redington, Conor Folan, Chris O Dowd, Fergal O Dea, Luke Howley, Martin Sydorow, Tim Carroll, Ronan Tully, Ross Doyle , Andrew Connolly, Cillian Black, Kevin Burke, Daragh Manning, Dara Hanniffy. Under 14 First Division Maree Oranmore 9 - 0 Kinvara In the last of a series of three games in four days this game against Kinvara was a chance to give some of the players that have not played too many games this season an opportunity to impress. With Neil O Donoghue still feeling the effects of the man marking job on Friday evening, Shane Walsh took over as captain for the match.David Smyth scored the first goal after just three minutes with a fantastic shot from distance that hit the top of the net. There were few threats from Kinvara during the first half and further goals from Barry Smyth and Alan Burke made it 3-0 at the break. With a host of substitutes introduced in the second half including Colm Doody, Conor Devlin, Malachy Black & Cillian Beirne six more goals were scored with first league goals coming for Evan Lynskey and Peter Galowski. Other scorers were Shane Walsh, both David & Barry Smyth scoring second goals and Conor Devlin making it 9-0 just before the final whistle went. With six games left in the league there will be a busy last few weeks in this campaign and the lads will need to stay focused to remain in contention. Next game is this Wednesday at home Vs Salthill Devon. Under 8 Challenge Matches in Cregmore 5 wins in 6 matches Friday, April 09th. 2010 Under 14 Connacht Cup Salthill Devon 1 - 0 Maree Oranmore In the second of a series of three games in four days this game against Salthill Devon’s premier side was never going to be easy. After the poor performance against Ramblers on Wednesday, the lads knew that major improvement was needed in order make any impact again this team currently second in the premier league.
I would like to thank my fellow coaches Gerry Fogarty, Martin Molloy and Enda Thompson for all their help and efforts during the season. To our panel of players, I would like to say well done on a great effort this season, both on and off the field. You were a credit to the Maree/Oranmore Soccer Club.

Maree/Oranmore 0 Oughterard 3
Game started in high wind, and Oughterard got a goal in first minute after a shot form distance. No fault to Robbie in goal. An unfortunate hand ball just before half time led to a penalty, Oughterard led two goals to nil at half time.
The lads did not sit back in second half. Bappi was a constatnt threat up front. Matthew McKiernan and Michael O Dowd defended everything well, Matthew Kilgannon began to find his passess in midfield, and Robbie Cummins made a magnificient save when ball rebounded off the crossbar.
In the last five minutes Oughterard scored a third to make it three goals to nil at the finish.
The lads played 14 games in toal finishing fourth in table with 26 points.
The only teams to beat them were Cregmore and Oughterard. Both these clubs don’t have a “ B” team so this was their best team in Under 11 age group. They drew twice with Salthill Devon “B”, and they won convincinly home and away against Barna, Mervue B, Hibs B and Knocknacarra B.
All the players have improved a huge amount since league started in September, well done to all. See you all for player of year awards on 5th anniversary FunDay on Saturday 1st May.
Ground conditions hard and a lot of bounce with the ball. A squad of
13 out of 14 turned up for this expected easy game. From kick off the
game was far from easy with some excellent moves forward down the wing
from Corofin along with some excellent defending closing down numerous
moves from Sean Reddington and Nathan Lynskey. Our midfield line
pushed hard with Eoin Rockall skillfully tapping home our first goal.
We had many more chances in front of goal but Corofin surrounded us
well closing down some close shots from Oisin Doyle and Luke Byrnes.
Our second goal came courtesy of a fine shot from Jack Coyne leaving
