U7 Invitational Tournament  -  14 March 2010

On the final day of the invitational tournament Maree/Oranmore Plaza had a final encounter with Cregmore/Claregalway wihile our castle team had a friendly match with Kinvara. Overall the U7 finished  3rd in the league. This was a good achievement as Maree/Oranmore fielded two balanced teams out of a total squad of 20 regular players.  The emphais on fun and participation at this age group was very evident amongst our youngest tournament players.

Maree/Oranmore Plaza  1 Cregmore/Claregalway  3
Maree/Oranmore Plaza took on a physically strong Cregmore/Claregalway panel in a tough game for the home side’s final match.  Dispite severe pressure from the Cregmore/Claregalway the home side held the tide back for most of the first half with some great defensive play from Eric Tuohy, Dylan Wall, Sean cannon and John Kilgannon. Shane Cox scored the home’s side’s only goal with a great strike from 15 yards out.  Unfortunately, Gregmore/Claregalway scored 3 goals in quick succession to take victory on this occasion. However, the home side was not disheartened and looks forward to a return match into the future.

Maree/Oranmore Castle 1 Kinvara Utd 3
Maree/Oranmore Castle took on Kinvara Utd in a friendly match also on the 14th.  There was great fun throughout this match with some solid displays of football by Matthew Burke, Jamie Keane, Cian Fallon and James Sharry. Kinvara had a few lucky breaks to take a 3 goal lead into half time.  During the 2nd half the home side settled down and started pushing forward. The pressure from the Maree/Oranmore side paid off when a through ball from Dylan Rees found Shane McDermott  whose solid strike of the ball found the corner of the Kinvara net.

U7 Invitational Tournament  -  14 February 2010

Despite the continuing cold weather conditions for the invitational tournament, there was an excellent turnout of players for the U7 tournament.

Maree/Oranmore Castle  0     Cregmore/Claregalway  1
On pitch 2 Maree/Oranmore Castle took on Cregmore/Claregalway in a tough game for the home side. The Cregmore/Claregalway side fielded a physically strong team which put the home side on the defensive from the start.  Dispite severe pressure from the Cregmore/Claregalway the home side held the tide back during the first half with great play from Conor McGreal and Dylan Wall.  In the 2nd half  Cregmore/Claregalway  pressed home their physical advantage scoring a single goal. Maree/Oranmore  Castle  team looked for an equaliser with strong play from Jack Rooney  and Jamie Keane but the opportunity didn’t come on this occasion.

Maree/Oranmore Plaza 1  Kinvara Utd 1
On Pitch 1 Maree/Oranmore Plaza took on Kinvara Utd in an evenly contested match. Again the weather played an important part in the result with very few scoring opportunities arising for either team. Some fine defence work by Matthew Burke and James Sharry  kept Kinvara at bay with the Maree/Oranmore Plaza 'keeper rarely being challenged.  Kinvara scored a goal early in the 2nd half but the continued pressure of the Plaza team payed off with Shane Cox and Eric Tuohy combining to get a well deserved equaliser.

U7 Invitational Tournament  -  3rd January 2009

Maree/Oranmore Castle  0    Maree/Oranmore Plaza  0

In what could be considered a post Christmas derby match, Maree/Oranmore Castle took on Maree/Oranmore Plaza in icy weather conditions on an early Sunday 3rd January morning.  Our thanks to all the players and parents who came out to support their local teams in the cold weather.   While the weather was indeed cold there was no shortage of enthusiam as the two local teams faced up to each other in what was a hotly contested and entertaining match. The teams were evenly balanced with end to end play from the kick-off.  For the castle team Shane Cox and Dylan Rees combined well forcing some fine defensive play from Jack Burke and Shane McDermot. Similiarily, the Plaza duo of Dylan Rees and Conor McGreal combined well to force the best out of both Eric Landers and Dara Neary who did great job defending the castle goal.  On the balance of play a draw was a fair result.

U7 Invitational Tournament  -  6 December 2009

Weather conditions on this 2nd outing of the invitational tournament were far from ideal with high winds and some occasional driving showers. However, nothing could deter the enhusiam of the Maree/Oranmore players for the game as they prepared to challenge both the elements and some strong opposition.

Maree/Oranmore Castle  1     Corrib Celtic 1
On pitch 1 Maree/Oranmore Castle took on Corrib Celtic in a highly entertaining game with the home team pressing hard in the tough weather conditions. The Corrib Celtic defense held firm for the first half but the constant pressure of the home side finally paid off when Eric Tuohy split the defense with a through ball for Dylan Rees who struck it first time giving the Corrib Celtic keeper no chance.  With the advantage to the home team Corrib Celtic took the game to Maree/Oranmore who where unlucky to concede a late goal against the run of play.

Maree/Oranmore Plaza 0  Kinvara Utd 0
On Pitch 2 Maree/Oranmore Plaza took on Kinvara Utd in a hotly contested match. Again the weather played an important part in the result with very few scoring opportunities arising for either team. Some fine defense work by Sean Cannon kept Kinvara at bay with the Maree/Oranmore Plaza keeper rarely being challenged.  Conor McGreal took on the Kinvara defense combining with Conor McGoldrick to give the visiting team some anxious moments.

Maree/Oranmore Plaza 0 Colga Comets 0
Maree/Oranmore Plaza had a 2nd Match this Sunday taking on a fresh Colga side on Pitch 1. Although a little tired after the first match the Maree/Oranmore plaza team  took the match to Colga with Dylan Wall only missing the Colga goal by inches in the opening minutes.   However, in the 2nd half the fresher legs of the Colga team placed sustained pressure on the Maree/Oranmore defense who had to call on goalkeeper Dara Neary to pull off some outstanding saves to keep the scoresheet clean – well done Dara.

Sunday November 15th

Maree Oranmore Castle 0 - 1 Colga Comets

Sunday 15 November saw the kick-off of the U7 Invitational Tournement. The weather was kind with the sun coming out for the morning helping to lift everyone spirits for the occasion. Maree/Oranmore has two U7 teams in the tournement, the Maree/Oranmore Plaza team taking on the Colga Titans, with the Maree/Oranmore Castle Team taking on the Colga Comets on our first competetive outing of the session. Both matches were evenly contested. In the first Match honours were shared with an end result of Plaza and titans drawing 0-0. There was some fine play from the Plaza team with both Sean Cannon and Jack Rooney making good plays.

The 2nd match between Castle and Comets was a match of two halves with Castle camped in the Comets half for the most of the first half with goalkeeper Jack Burke only being called on to make one great save. In the 2nd half team Comet piled the pressure on Castle which stood firm for all of the half. There were some fine runs from Diarmud Hanniffy and Dylan Rees with the comets getting a lucky goal with a defensive error in the Castle backline. Final Score was 0-1 to the comets.
