Under 11 First Division
Hibernians / Foyle 2 - 4 Maree Oranmore
Maree/Oranmore under 11 First Division side travelled with a small squad into Bohermore for a league match versus Hibs on Sat 6th March. A few key players were unavailable, so the strength of the squad was going to come under test. As it turned out, this match turned into a real “get out of jail” match, with Maree/Oranmore only winning the match in the last five minutes - plus they had to come from behind in the first half. Hibs started brightly on a boggy pitch, and went ahead in first half when Michael O’Dowd and Eamon Flynn got caught for pace with a through ball down the middle. The lads only started to play after about ten minutes when Cathal Kavanagh kept battling to get his first goal of the season to level things (nice summersault Cathal!). Sides were level one each at half time, nothing in it.In the second half Hibs continued to compete well, they are much improved since earlier in the season. With twenty minutes to go Declan Harte fired low from the edge of the box to make it two goals to one for Maree/Oranmore, another first goal of the season for Declan. But back came Hibs after a mistake by Eamon Flynn to make it two goals each. At this stage the lads had to dig deep and really compete strongly if they were not to lose the match. With five minutes to go a corner by Dominic Curley was banged over the line by Aaron Connolly to make it three goals to two. And the best goal of the match was scored in the last minute by Matthhew Kilgannon when he squeezed the ball between the goalie and near post. This was not an easy win, but fair play to the lads they came from behind against a well organised team to come out on top in the end. Well done to all.
Full squad: Robbie Commins, Declan Harte, Michael O’Dowd, James Delmaney, Matthew McKiernan, David Price, Matthew Kilgannon, Eamonn Flynn, Cathal Kavanagh, Aaron Connolly, James Delany, Dominic Curley, Eamon Flynn, Ciaran Blaney, Ewan McDonagh. Scott Mannion, James Reynolds.
Under 11 Premier League
Maree Oranmore 1 - 2 Barna United
Last weekends game against Barna was to be their toughest game so far since entering the premier league. Conditions were good. Barna started from the offset with a very physical game and the passing of a ball with fierce percision. That is why they are at the top of the league unbeaten. First goal came minutes into the game from a shot outside the box making it 1 - 0 to Barna. We had very little possession of the ball. Whistle blew ending the first half Barna 1 - Maree Oranmore 0. In the second half ,we matched the physical strength of the opposition and the ball was passed with conviction. Unfortunately through a lack of concentration on our behalf, Barna scored their second goal putting Barna 2-0 up. Ross Malone played very well in defence clearing a lot of dangerous ball. Oisin Doyle played with determination throughout the game in midfield. We had a lot of the play in the second half. A lot of the havoc caused in the first half by the Barna midfielders was combated in the second half by tight marking of our lads. They showed determination and persistence that bodes a bright future for them. Jack Coyne shot a strong shot at goal from the midfield. The ball fell forward out of the goalie's hands and Diarmuid Byrne wasted no time in hitting the ball in the bottom left hand corner of the net making it 2-1 .This put the pressure on Barna. The lads tried at every opportunity to score an equalizer. Sean Reddington played well passing a lot of ball into the forwards.

Under 15 First Division
Salthill Devon 0 - 2 Maree Oranmore
This game was played on Sunday morning and the conditions were perfect.Maree Oranmore came into this game having lost to Ballinakill in extra time in the first division cup. This was a test to see how the lads would react after losing that game. Even though it was Salthill's B side we were still playing Salthill on their home pitch. The lads were really up for this game and after fifteen minutes we should have been three nil up. We were camped in Salthill's half but the goal was just eluding us. It seemed like it was going to be one of those games where it would finish up nil all. C. Molloy and S.O'Toole were very dominant in midfield, nothing got past them. Our 'keeper did not have to make one save in the first half. Into the second half and Maree Oranmore knew that they had to up their game to win this match. They really played with a real purpose, tackles were hard and fair. Maree Oranmore never let Salthill settle on the ball. Our first goal came from an attack down the right side of midfield. B. Walsh picked up the ball in the middle of the park and he played it first time into B. Tully.B.Tully took control of the ball raced to the end line crossed the ball into the box.M. Quinn took control of it on his chest and placed it with his left foot into the back of the net. For his goal M. Quinn picked up an injury and we were going to take him off but we got a corner within five minutes of scoring our first goal. B.Tully crossed to the back post and who headed it home (M.Quinn...thank god we did not take him off). With fifteen minutes left we made four substitutions. On came D. Cawley,B. Hanniffy,D. O'Dea & G. Dujkovic. We then played one up front and brought B. Tully back into midfield. As in the first half our keeper M. Gilmore did not have one save to make and that was thanks to our outstanding back four of C. Smith, J McHugh, P Canning & M Cleary. We are now one point clear at the top of the table.

Girls Under 12 Challenges versus Craughwell
While the Airtricity League of Ireland was kicking off all over the country, our older girls were wecolmed to Craughwell for games against the local Under 12 squad. All four games were tightly contested in beautiful conditions, but Craughwell sporting the nerazzurri kit of Inter Milan showed that bit more Mourhino know-how and narrowly won 3 of the 4 games with the other game being a goalless draw. With the prospect of a Galway & District Under 12 Girls League now apparently more realistic than ever before, all of our girls gave gutsy and committed performances throughout the evening against their older opponents. Match 1 was the drawn game where the exchanges were honest and wholehearted without any major threats to either goalkeeper. In the other opening fixture, our girls held their own. Driven on by the energetic and powerful Ciara Geraghty, several chances came our way and midway through the second half Katie Smyth pounced to poach a lead goal for us. That stung the local girls into action & despite heroic defending from Rachel Burke & Lauriane Mercure, Craughwell nicked two late goals in as many minutes to win the first encounter. The second round of matches were equally competitive but Craughwell grew in stature and confidence on the back of the first two games & emerged victorious in both by margins of 2-1 and 2-0 respectively. Our goalscorer in this round of games was Grainne Galvin. Others to catch the eye for us in this game were Ailish Carr and Laura McNulty as well as the Maree dynamic trio of Ciara Fogarty, Rachel Hanniffy and Eabha O'Rourke. Emer Hannon & Rachel Connolly gave their all for the cause as usual. The only damper on the night (apart from the dodgy refereeing of a certain Mr. Hannon :) was a leg injury in the first match suffered by Alison Blayney. We hope she is well recovered by the time you read this. Apart from those already mentioned the contributions of Laura Shivnan (especially as goalkeeper), Chloe Molee, Kristina Dugic, Zelka, Laoise Walsh and Fanni Debreceni all contributed hugely to a great work out for the girls. Their collective willingness to work for each other and to try to create openings for team-mates improves with every outing. The girls have all worked hard on their positional awareness and are now very disciplined in this regard. Thank You to Craughwell for inviting us out the eerily quiet N6 & thanks to the loyal group of parents and siblings who came to support the girls.
