Under 12 Girls Premier
CupColga 1 - 2 Maree Oranmore
Despite being the better side throughout, Maree Oranmore were left hanging on for this cup win in Kilcornan on Wednesday. A goal midway through the second half breathed new life into the home side and they pressed hard to force the tie to extra-time, but Maree Oranmore dug deep and played good football to hold on for a merited win. Throughout this tie Maree Oranmore were more relaxed and composed on the ball than in their most recent league games. In midfield Alison Blayney and Rachel Burke used possession economically and wisely and time and again in the first half the breakthroughs were created for Rachel Hanniffy and Katie Smyth, both of whom gave a torrid time to the home defence. In a repeat of the league encounter betwen these two sides Maree Oranmore opened brightly and scored in the early minutes following a move down the left flank. The prolific Rachel Hanniffy was on the end of a move involving Rachel Burke and Alison Blayney to score the lead goal. Although Ciara Fogarty in goals was a virtual spectator at this point in the game, she still had to be at her sharpest to parry a wicked deflection that came at the end of a rare Colga attack. Laura Shivnan and Ciara Geraghty showed great awareness and attention to their positions in snuffing out any attacks Colga built before any danger could emerge. Most of the pressing was coming from the Maree Oranmore girls as a series of attacks were repelled by the Colga defence but possession was repeatedly won in midfield for Maree Oranmore. Eventually Alison Blayney took matters into her own hands and made progress into the danger zone before shooting home a great second goal. Half time came shortly afterwards and in the second half Laoise Walsh and Eabha O'Rourke alternated to make important contributions as the last lines of defence and front lines of attack for Maree Oranmore. Ailish Carr gave a very positive contribution when introduced for defensive and midfield duties and Grainne Galvin provided many of the saving tackles as an improving Colga came more and more into the contest. Colga scored their deserved goal entering the final quarter to set up a nail-biting finale for the Maree Oranmore girls. The reintroduction of Ciara Geraghty and Rachel Burke helped to stem the relentless tide of Colga pressure and at the other end the Colga defence pulled off an amazing series of blocks, parries and saves to deny the on-target efforts of Eabha O'Rourke, Ciara Fogarty and Rachel Hanniffy. At last the final whistle was greeted by the Maree Oranmore girls more with relief than delight as Colga came very close to getting an equaliser but for a great tip over the bar by Laoise Walsh. With this win, Maree Oranmore have reached the semi-final of this competition. As all of the League encounters were close and hard fought encounters, the girls can look forward to the challenge with renrewed faith in their own ability to play the beautiful game.Squad: Laoise Walsh, Ciara Fogarty, Eabha O'Rourke, Laura Shivnan, Ciara Geraghty, Rachel Burke, Alison Blayney, Rachel Hanniffy, Katie Smyth, Ailish Carr, Grainne Galvin.

Girls U-12 Premier Divison
Maree Oranmore 0 - 1 Craughwell
Maree Oranmore Girls Under 12 Premier Division squad concluded their league campaign with a home defeat to Craughwell. This was a very tight contest with both sides evenly matched. Maree Oranmore kept possession of the ball with growing confidence from previous matches and the passing and tackling in midfield was of a high standard with Alison Blayney winning lots of play and Rachel Burke setting up attacking chances. For all that the Craughwell girls were strong and Maree Oranmore found it difficult to make a breakthrough on their goal. Eabha O'Rourke tried hard upfront, Rachel Hanniffy covered miles as usual and Ciara Geraghty always posed a threat on the ball. At the back Laura Shivnan kept alert to the danger posed by the Craughwell attacks. but as half time approached a Craughwell break ended with a diagonal ball squeaking across the despairing dive of Ciara Fogarty to give the visitors the only goal of the night. In the second half Laoise Walsh took over in goals and kept a clean sheet as well as delivering very useful kick outs. Katie Smyth and Ciara Fogarty (now in an attacking role) pressed hard for the equaliser while Ailish Carr and Grainne Galvin covered both defence and midfield as we pushed forward more and more. A deserved equaliser just would not come. In the last minute Rachel Hanniffy burst through on goal and was about to pull the trigger when she was hauled down. The resulting free kick went just wide and the final whistle sounded. This was a disappointing end to a great league campaign for this group of girls most of whom will be underage again next year. They played some great football in every game; never lost by more than one goal and defeated the league leaders and probable league champions in a memorable victory. Thanks to the girls and their families for the great committment they gave to the league since it began on May 02nd. There's plenty more soccer in this group if they stick with it and their Cup fate awaits them with a midweek trip to Colga ahead.
Squad: Laoise Walsh, Ciara Fogarty, Eabha O'Rourke, Laura Shivnan, Ciara Geraghty, Rachel Burke, Alison Blayney, Rachel Hanniffy, Katie Smyth, Ailish Carr, Grainne Galvin

Girls Under 12 First Division
Maree Oranmore 0 - 5 Mervue United
The first division squad faced a very strong Mervue United side at the Castle Road and despite playing well came off second best. Curiously Mervue, one of the biggest clubs in the Galway & District League opted not to enter a team in the Premier Division so the team that faced the Maree Oranmore girls was their strongest side. Prior to this game Mervue were top of the league and had a 100% record in all their matches. Despite this Maree Oranmore were brave and committed all the way through. Fanni Debreceni gave another excellent performance in goals as did Kelley Neary in the second half. Both girls gave their usual positive contributions when outfield too. At the back Leah Naughton and Laura McNulty were under constant and severe pressure but they stuck to the task of keeping the marauding Mervue girls at bay as much as possible. Lauriane Mercure and Rachel Burke put in the tackles in midfield and defence. Rachel Connolly was forced into a fully defensive role as was Chloe Moolee but Shauna Fitzmaurice had some success playing further forward than she was accustomed to. The tireless Lisa Blayney worked hard all night to lift the Mervue siege. The girls showed their character by never giving up against probably older and certainly bigger opponents. Mervue showed why they are league leaders by putting on a strong display and taking a couple of the chances that came their way with composure and clinical finishing. The final whistle sounded bringing a disappointing end to the evening for Maree Oranmore but they came off the pitch knowing they had done their best against very strong opponents.
Squad: Kelley Neary, Fanni Debreceni, Leah Naughton, Laura McNulty, Rachel Connolly, Rachel Burke, Shauna Fitzmaurice, Lauriane Mercure, Chloe Moolee, Lisa Blayney

Girls Under 12 First Division Cup
Maree Oranmore 0 - 3 Salthill Devon
The warm Saturday morning air greeted the Maree Oranmore players on arrival at the Castle Road for their second game in less than 48 hours. This time it was the cup competition and the visitors were Salthill Devon. Fanni Debreceni gave great confidence to the team with a few great early saves and excellent deliveries from her kick-outs. Lisa Blayney and Lauriane Mercure started to win these kick outs and take the game to the visitors. Maree Oranmore threatened to break through on a couple of occasions with Rachel Burke winning good tackles and Chloe Moolee giving her best performance of the season, being unlucky not to score with one good shot at goal. Kelly Neary was great in possession and led the team attacks with bravery and purpose. At the back Laura McNulty was resolute as ever and was missed early in the second half when injury forced her to take a break. Leah Naughton and Rachel Connolly also provided their usual defensive cover. Leah, who captained the side, gave great deliveries from the dead ball and Rachel has grown so much as a player in this series of matches. With neither side scoring in the first half, Salthill reacted best to the restart and began to make some progress down the Maree Oranmore left flank. From here they got two quick early second half goals that made the difference on the day. Despite the best efforts of the Maree Oranmore girls to get back in to the contest, Salthill's confidence began to rise on the two goal cushion and as the final whistle approached they broke through for a third. Maree Oranmore were glad to have Emer Hannon back in the squad for the second half and also introduced Verona Crowley for her first appearance at this level. Though out of the cup competition, this group of girls are scheduled to have two remaining league matches. They can look forward to them with confidence as their game is improving with each outing.
Squad: Kelley Neary, Fanni Debreceni, Leah Naughton, Laura McNulty, Rachel Connolly, Rachel Burke, Lauriane Mercure, Chloe Moolee, Lisa Blayney, Emer Hannon, Verona Crowley.
Thank You
The Girls Under 12 coaches would like to thank the following who assisted us greatly for our home games in both the Premier and First Divisions. The prinicipal of Calasantius College for the use of the Castle Road pitch; Ollie Neary, Niall Mannion and Gerry Fogarty for officiating; Cian Walsh and Mike Shivnan for help in setting up and standing down the pitch equipment and a very special thanks to Liam Carroll and Mark Tully for ensuring the pitch was properly prepared and suitable for a very busy round of games. Without this help the girls would not have had the opportunity to play their football in their own community so we are vey thankful for the help we got.
U-11 PREMIER SIDE IN THE SALTHILL 5 - A SIDES ON 06/JUNE/2010
We submitted an U-11 premier soccer squad to the Salthill 5's last weekend.
Thirteen teams took part in the tournament. There was quiet an array of
talent which included Barna, Salthill Devon and Renmore among others. We
played Athenry's top team in the first game. Minutes after the game began,
Eoin Rockall put us on the score board with our first goal. Matthew
Kilgannon played well in the midfield. Just before half time, Luke Byrnes
scored goal number two leaving the score 2-0 to Maree Oranmore. The
possession and passing of the ball by the lads made it very hard for the
opposition to attack. Stephen Commins also made some very good saves on the
day. Kevin Burke came on in the second half adding a good contribution to
the team and scoring our final goal leaving the final score Maree Oranmore 3
Athenry 0.
The second game got us into the quarter final against Renmore. We knew this
game would be difficult to win and we would have to pass the ball with speed
and accuracy. The game was very close throughout the first half with both
sides missing opportunities. Luke Byrnes scored goal number one but this
was short lived when Renmore equalized with the score at half time ending
Maree Oranmore 1 Renmore 1. The second half could have gone either way and
possession of the ball was paramount. Sean Reddington was passing the ball
with great accuracy. Just before the final whistle Eoin Rockall clenched the
winning goal putting us through to the semi final with a score of 2-1
against Renmore.
The semi final was Maree Oranmore against Barna. They were favourites going
into the tournament (being unbeaten in all their league games) but in the
first half we were certainly a threat to them with a few shots at goal from
Keelin Eyers and Nathan Lynskey. They didn't capitalize on their chances.
The sides remained deadlocked until just before the half time whistle when
Barna scored a goal making it 1-0 to Barna. With everything to play for,
the lads went out with determination in the second half .Unfortunitely to
no avail, the final score was 1-0 to Barna putting us out of the tournament.
The U-11 Premier squad showed they are a force to be reckoned with in the
near future. Special thanks goes to the parents who supported us on the day
and a special thanks to John Reddington who assisted on the day.
SQUAD: Keelin Eyers, Sean Reddington, Eoin Rockall, Nathan Lynskey, Matthew
Kilgannon, Luke Byrnes, Stephen Commins, Kevin Burke.

Under 12 Premier Division Girls
Cregmore Claregalway 3 - 2 Maree Oranmore
We don't like Friday's. Our previous defeat in this League was on a Friday and our visit to Cregmore turned up the same outcome. The warning signs were there from the start as several promising Cregmore atacks came to nothing, more by good fortune than resolute defending. On a few occasions the ball squirted across our goal line requiring only a touch that thankfully never came. However, the inevitable lead goal for the home side arrived when the striker took her chance from point blank range. Ciara Geraghty has provided a threat for us from the dead ball all through the League. She sent in a few warning shots before setting up our equaliser with a great shot on target, to which Rachel Hanniffy reacted quickest and fired home for a great equaliser. Both sides were dangerous on the break, but in truth Cregmore carried the greater threat. We gathered at half time content that we were back in the game. Perhaps the team was unsettled by a number of half time changes but straight form the kick off Cregmore were awared a lead goal when a kick-in was deemed to have taken a touch on its way to the net. Numbed by this reverse we switched off as Cregmore broke swiftly to double their advantage with a smart break down the right and a simple ball acros the edge of the 'box that was tapped home. Fair paly to our girls, they rallied immediately and began to get more possession and set up a few great chances. Rachel Burke and Alison Blayney were seeing more of the ball, but Cregmore had done their homework on Ciara Fogarty and curbed her influence with a tight marking job. However Ciara broke free to get us back in the game with a goal that set up a rip roaring final quarter. On a warm evening with a surface that was wearing the players down, gaps appeared at both ends. Grainne Galvin joined Laura Shivnan at the back and kept our forward momentum going. We got behind the Cregmore cover on a few occasions towards the end but the vital final shot eluded us for once. Right at the death Rachel Burke swung in two lovely corners from which we had the chance to snatch the point, but the home side held firm for the win. Credit to all the girls for a whole hearted effort at the end of a hectic week for most of them on a variety of sporting fronts. We welcomed back Kristina Dugic following injury and Katie Smyth, Laoise Walsh and Ailish Carr all made important contributions for the team. The twelfth member of the squad Eabha O'Rourke was not called upon this time out, but she is a very important member of this squad and has the potential to be a major soccer player for the remainder of this season and many more to come. Our final premier league game is scheduled for next Thursday night on the Castle Road against Craughwell. Also on Thursday night, the first division squad welcome Mervue
